Day 1
MOSCOW: EMBARKATION
Arrive Moscow. After clearing Immigration and Customs, air/cruise passengers will be met by our local represententives and transferred to the harbor for embarkation. The river port is located on Leningradsky Prospect near Rechnoy Vokzal Metro station in the Northern part of Moscow. The drive from Moscow's International airport Sheremetievo to ms Peter the Great takes approximately 30 minutes. A welcome aboard dinner on board. (D)
Day 2
MOSCOW:
Welcome to Russia's capital, ancient and ever young Moscow! After breakfast enjoy a city tour that will include Red Square, Bower Hill, Sparrow Hills, The Cathedral of Christ The Redeemer. Stop at Arbat - a pedestrian street in old part of Moscow featuring art dispays, souvenir shops, and a variety of cafes and restaurants. The following are optional: Pushkin Fine Arts Museum, Evening Circus performance, Moscow by Night tour.(B, L, D)
Day 3
MOSCOW
This morning your guided tour of Kremlin - an ancient fortress and the seat of Russian government - includes 3 cathedrals: the Assumption Cathedral, the Cathedral of Archangel Mikhael, and the Annunciation Cathedral. The following tours are optional: the Armory Chamber (Russian Royal jewelry including Faberge's Easter Eggs) , Diamond Chamber, Sergiev Passad, evening theater or folklore. (B, L, D)
Day 4
MOSCOW: SET SAIL
Enjoy your last day in Moscow before ms Peter the Great sets sail this evening. In the morning, visit the Tretyakov Gallery - the most comprehensive collection of Russian art in the world that includes such treasures as icons by Andrei Rublev. In the afternoon you can either explore Moscow on your own or take an optional tours Kuskovo Museum & Park. Sail from Moscow 5:30pm. (B, L, D)
Day 5
UGLICH:
Today is your first day of cruising Russian waterways. At 4:30pm your floating hotel will bring you to Uglich, one of the most beloved towns of old Russia. During the walking tour of this historic town you will visit local Kremlin, the Church of St. Dimitrius on the Blood, grand princes Chambers, Savior Transfiguration Cathedral, and the Museum of Applied Art. Sail at 7 pm. (B, L, D)
Day 6
KOSTROMA:
Relax and enjoy the morning cruising until you arrive in Kostroma at 1 pm. In 1612, the town unwittingly became the cradle of the Romanov dynasty -- Mikhail Romanov (1596-1645) and his family were in exile in the city (Russia's third largest at the time) when Mikhail was elected tsar. Our program here in cludes a city tour, Ipatiev Monastery, and trading arcades. Optional: Museum of Romanov family. Sail 10 pm. (B, L, D)
Day 7
YAROSLAVL:
Arrival 8 am. Your bus and walking tour of this 1000 year old Golden Ring city will include the Monastery of Our Savior, Church of Elija the Prophet with its famous 13th century fresco paintings, and former Monks Cell of the Monastery. Also visited will be the Regional Museum of Applied Art. Enjoy a special treat - a Russian folklore show. Sail 1 pm. (B, L, D)
Day 8
GORITSY:
Arrive at 12 pm. Goritsy is a typical Russian village along the Volga. Here you can fully appreciate your choice of travel program. Only on a river cruise you participate in a delightful walking tour that invites you to the home of one of the local folk who treats guests to a taste of homemade pirogi (pastry) and tea. Other recreational activities will include fishing and games. Sail at 3:30 pm. (B, L, D)
Day 9
KIZHI:
Arrival 5 pm. The tiny fairy-tale island of Kizhi is located on the northern end of Lake Onega, the second largest lake in Europe and one of the world's purest. Kizhi is an open-air museum of Russian wooden architecture. The gem of the collection is the Transfiguration Church whose 22 domes were constructed without the use of a single nail. Your guided walking tour will also include other exhibits, such as a peasant's house and a wind mill. Sail 8 pm. (B, L, D)
Day 10
MANDROGY:
Arrival 11 am. This former Green Stop along the way has been converted into a replica of a typical 19th century Russian village. Stroll along to view local artists at work or visit the unique Vodka Museum featuring over 250 versions of Russian national drink. A riverside shashlyk barbecue lunch with wine and entertainment will follow. Set sail 2:30 pm. Tonight is the Captain's Farewell Dinner. (B, L, D)
Day 11
ST. PETERSBURG:
Arrival 8 am. Welcome to St. Petersburg! Your morning motorcoach city tour will pass by all major attractions such as the Nevsky prospect, Kazan Cathedral, the Admiralty, the Palace Square, St. Isaac's Cathedral and Peter and Paul Fortress. In the afternoon enjoy a guided tour of the world-famous Hermitage Museum, featuring works by Da Vinci, Rembrandt, Titian, Rafael and Monet. Optional: Northern Venice river and canal cruise. Evening: Folklore show Kozaks. (B, Lunch Pack, D)
Day 12
ST. PETERSBURG:
Today enjoy a guided tour of Peter and Paul Fortress that includes the grounds and St. Peter & Paul Cathedral. The beautiful baroque cathedral is the burial place for the Romanov Dynasty. Here the family of Nicholas and Alexander was burried recently. Our list of optional tour includes: Yusupov Palace where Rasputin was assasinated in 1914, Russian Museum, and evening ballet performance. (B, L, D)
Day 13
ST. PETERSBURG:
Our special feature: a visit to Peterhof (also known as Petrodvoretz), one of the former summer residences of the Royal family, founded by Peter the Great himself. You will see the magnificent gardens and fountains and can take an optional guided tour of the Grand Palace. Other optional programs for today include St. Isaac's Cathedral, Our Savior on the Spilled Blood Cathedral, and Folklore in Anichkov Palace. (B, L, D)
Day 14
ST. PETERSBURG:
Full day to explore this magnificent city on your own or to take some of our optional tours that include: baroque Catherine Palace and Park (the world famous Amber Room is located in the Palace), classical Pavlovsk Palace and Park, St. Petersburg by Night, Alexandro-Nevski Cathedral and Cemetery where Dostoyevsky, Tchaikovsky and other Russian writers and composers were buried there. Day 15
ST. PETERSBURG - HOME:
Disembark after breakfast, bid good-bye to ms Peter the Great's friendly crew and transfer to the airport for your flights home. Many of our passengers choose to extend their stay in Europe. For instance, those who fly Delta/Czech airlines can stay in Prague at a nominative fee and make this European architectural delight a part of their journey. A variety of Prague downtown hotels are available for your convenience. (B)
