According to Russian immigration law (as of January 15, 2007), you must notify the Federal Migration Service (MFS) about your arrival to the Russian Federation within 3 business days upon your arrival to the country. If you are staying at a hotel, the hotel staff will handle this procedure for you.

We also have our own stand at the Sheremetevo2 International Airport in Moscow. It is located in the Arrivals Lobby, Sector B, on the right side. Our stand has a sign "TFT" and "Go To Russia" on it. We are open Monday through Saturday from 9:00 AM to 11:00 PM and on Sunday from 12:00 to 11:00 PM Moscow time.
We encourage all travelers who obtained their visas with our visa support to visit our stand for simplified visa registration. Our agents will process visa registrations, arrange for airport transfers, assist with accommodations in apartments and hotels, book railroad and airline tickets, assist with any tours and answer any questions.
Our staff completes the required formalities for you in 24 hours; the cost of the service is $40 for visas valid for 1-3 months and $100 for longer-term visas. Business multiple-entry visas are registered for up to 6 months at a time, and it may take more than 24 hours to complete the requirements with business visas – please contact our local office for details.
If St. Petersburg is the first city on your itinerary, you are not staying at a hotel and plan to be there for at least three days, you can complete the required procedures through Status Travel: Kondratievski Prospect 21-1, Office 401-402, St Petersburg (Metro Stop "Finlyandski Vokzal"), Tel.: 7-921-9411520 (Alexander, English), 7-901-3738362 (Yana, Russian), or 812-973-8362. Office Hours: M-F 11:00 AM–6:00 PM. The cost is $45 per visa; registration may take up to 72 hours; please call our local office for information if you are traveling with a business visa valid for more than 1 month.
If your stay in Russia does not exceed 3 days, you do not need to notify authorities about your arrival, and above information does not apply to you.
A visa is only good for the period it is issued for and cannot be extended while in Russia. In case of an emergency, if you cannot leave by the visa expiration date, please call our Moscow office as soon as possible. Please make sure to fill out Migration Card which will be given to you by customs officials as you cross the Russian border, and carry it with you at all times.
